Partial Dentures

Partial dentures have been used in dentistry for centuries. With recent advancements in materials there are more options now than there have ever been. The benefits of a partial denture are the ability to replace multiple missing teeth, easy to clean, and partial dentures are the most affordable way to replace missing teeth.

The process of having a partial denture made usually involves three to four visits and 3 to 6 weeks. The first visit would be for impressions of your teeth. Next if the partial will contain metal than the framework is tried in to make sure it fits correctly. The Final step is trying in the partial with the teeth set in wax if we are replacing any front teeth to make sure that the teeth are the right shade, shape, color, size, and look that you want. After having the partial completed some adjustments may be necessary to get to a comfortable feeling.

Caring for a partial denture involves taking it out daily for at least 20 minutes. Taking it out gives the tissue in your mouth a chance to rest and relax from any pressure put on by the partial. Daily a partial should also be cleaned with a toothbrush and warm water. Baking soda can be used to clean as well but avoid using any toothpaste because it can scratch the partial and create areas for bacteria to get trapped. A denture cleaner such as efferdent or polident that you let a partial denture soak in can be used to help remove staining.
